Lifan Group owns technical center of state level and test center approved by CNAL. In November 2009, according to the assessment result released by National Development and Reform Commission, Lifan technical center scored 81.1, ranking 112 place among national recognized enterprise technical centers, and the ninth in automobile industry, the second in motorcycle industry.

Lifan technical center is a high level research and development organization, the main part of technical innovation system, and in the leading position in automobile VVT technology, dual fuel, new energy electric car, motorcycle hydrocooling, multi air valve, large discharge and electro jet. By December 2009, it has obtained all together 4852 domestic and overseas patent licenses, the first in this industry in terms of license number within China, the invention patent ranking 24 among top 50 state level technical centers and the only one in automobile and motorcycle industry that is selected. Lifan also won many prizes for science and technology innovation, including 13 state level prizes such as Second Prize for Contribution to National Science and Technology Progress, as well as over 200 city level prizes such as Chongqing Science and Technology Progress Award.

Lifan technical center has under it automobile research institute and motorcycle research institute. It has 836 technical staff, 90% of which are undergraduates and there are 90 members who have doctor's degree or master's, or senior engineer title.

Lifan owns a postdoctoral research station, studying on oil wear, noise, vibration and performance advancement and conducting the study and application of new energy-saving environmental-friendly fuel, digital integration, virtual design, virtual analysis, etc. Lifan responds to the call of our country that is advancing from "made in China" to "made by China", and upholds independent research & development. Lifan has brought in top talents from international automobile circle and hundreds of others from large domestic plants to team up with Lifan force in research and development.

Lifan technical center ranks 7th in China automobile industry. It plays a major role in technical development and innovation of automobile, motorcycle, engine, general gasoline engine, etc.

October 2006, Lifan group began its strategic cooperation with RICARDO, the world engine R&D magnate.

April 2007, Lifan built a united R&D center with Shanghai TJI, the largest professional and independent automotive design engineering company in China.

March 16, 2010 Shanghai ZKLF, founded by Lifan group and Chinese Academy of Sciences, officially launched new energy strategy.
